Frequently Asked Questions
What is in Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections, or toxins, are a purified form of Botulinum toxin (hence one of the brand names Botox). Toxin injections work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. It blocks the nerve impulses that cause the muscles to contract, which in turn prevents movement. Botox, Bocouture and other toxin injections are prescription drugs only, which I can prescribe to you as I hold a Clinical Nurse Prescriber.
What are the possible complications of Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Redness, bruising, swelling, allergic reaction, temporary drooping of eyelids or eyebrows after forehead injections* – Click Here for Our Anti Wrinkle Treatment Protocols for more info.
What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections used for?
Anti-Wrinkle Injection are used for a variety of medical conditions and I prescribe it predominantly to treat lines and wrinkles. It is also a popular treatment for excessive sweating and has also been used to prevent teeth grinding, a condition which often results in headaches or migraines. Anti Wrinkle treatments can combat both fine lines and deep wrinkles. This treatment reduces wrinkles and expression lines between the eyebrows and around the eye area.
Will the Anti Wrinkle Injections hurt?
You may feel a mild stinging sensation as the injection is given. I do have a great deal of skill and experience in carrying out this treatment and often patients comment on how gentle I am.
I’ll do it quickly, while making sure you feel comfortable at all times, so there’s no need to worry.
Do you provide subtle Botox or Anti-Wrinkle Injection treatments?
I offer a very subtle treatment (or Tweakments!) that will try to create a smoother, fresher more relaxed appearance. If however you want minimal movement we can endeavour to deliver this also.

What are common treatment areas and other names for Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
Can excessive sweating, depression, and other conditions be treated with toxin injections?
To decide which treatments will deliver the best results for your skin concerns e.g. lines or wrinkles, we always carry out an in-depth consultation and computerised skin analysis. When we recommend any treatment, for example, dermal fillers (such as Restylane, Teosyl and Juvederm®) or Botox® Injections in our Essex Clinic, we will give you all the information you need and will always provide a medical consultation to discuss your concerns. Please see below for the most up to date information on Botox® Injections for the treatment of Wrinkle Treatments.
Treatment Types Include:
Wrinkles and Frown lines with Botox:
Wrinkles and frown lines are comprehensively treated with quick-acting injectable’s, known as Botulinum Toxin neuromodulators. Since that is such a mouthful to say, let’s just call them wrinkle relaxers.
There are different causes of wrinkles, Muscle Relaxant injections provide a solution as they relax the muscles that cause the wrinkle, reducing the movement of your facial muscles, which further prevents and minimises the appearance and formation of lines and wrinkles. They are used for frown and forehead lines, crow’s feet, smoker’s lines around the mouth, and neck bands (sagging skin and muscles around the neck). Results last for around three to four months, sometimes longer.
I prefer to take a conservative approach with the amount of Botulinum I inject, taking into consideration the result you’d like to see. Typically I would recommend a small amount to retain some muscle movement, rather than a larger amount (that reduces muscle movement, giving a ‘frozen’ effect), I’ll discuss this with you during your consultation.
Treating Hyperhidrosis with Botox (excessive sweating):
Botox for Sweating injections can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) also known as Botox for the Underarms. We do so by injecting Botox and other forms of toxin into the affected area, such as underarms, this prevents the glands producing sweat. It has been shown it can reduce sweating by up to 90% and the results generally last between six and nine months.
Treating Migraines With Botox:
Botulinum toxin Injections to the forehead can also have an added benefit of relaxing the muscle associated with migraines.
Treating Depression With Botox:
There are ongoing studies for the use of Botulinum Toxin A and the treatment of depressions, while this is still at the early stage of clinical studies it could prove to be a vital treatment for this worldwide disease. There was an interesting article in the BBC news on Botox and depresssion. It found that the treatment of depression could be targeted by injecting Botox and other botulinum toxins in different areas of the face. Interestingly it also found that certain areas such as around the crows feet can increase the incidence of depression due to the muscle restriction on smiling.
