Frequently Asked Questions
What is in anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections, or toxins, are a purified form of the drug botulinum toxin. Toxin injections work by relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles. It blocks the nerve impulses that cause the muscles to contract, thus preventing movement. In turn, this can soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and prevent new ones from forming.
What are the possible complications of anti-wrinkle injections?
Redness, bruising, swelling, allergic reaction, temporary drooping of eyelids or eyebrows are all be possible complications after forehead injections. The treatment will be discussed in depth at your consultation and you will be provided with further printed and/or emailed information following a full medical assessment.
What are Anti-Wrinkle Injections used for?
Botulinum toxin is used for a variety of medical conditions and at Facial Aesthetics is prescribed most commonly to treat lines and wrinkles. It is also a popular treatment for excessive sweating and has also been used to prevent teeth grinding, a condition which often results in headaches or migraines.
Will the anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
You may feel a mild stinging sensation as the injection is given. Our nurse prescriber Julie says, “I do have a great deal of skill and experience in carrying out this treatment and often patients comment on how gentle I am. I’ll work quickly, while making sure you feel comfortable at all times, so there’s no need to worry.”
Do you provide subtle anti-wrinkle injection treatments?
We offer a very subtle treatment (or tweakment!) that will try to create a smoother, fresher more relaxed appearance. If, however, you want minimal movement, this can be attained. Your goals and concerns will be discussed in-depth before treatment, and results are always reviewed two weeks after treatment and can be tweaked if necessary.
Why should I choose Facial Aesthetics for anti-wrinkle injections?
What are common treatment areas and other names for Anti-Wrinkle Injections?
When searching for anti-wrinkle treatment, patients often also use the following terms: Anti Wrinkle Injections, Armpit Sweating, Crows Feet Reduction, Facial Fillers, Hand Sweating, Line Correction, Lifting Facial Wrinkles, Palm Sweating, Smoothing Deep Folds and Facial Contours, Wrinkle Reduction
Can excessive sweating, depression, and other conditions be treated with these injections?
To decide which treatments will deliver the best results for your skin concerns e.g. lines or wrinkles, we always carry out an in-depth consultation and computerised skin analysis. When we recommend any treatment, for example, dermal fillers or anti-wrinkle injections in our Essex Clinic, we will give you all the information you need and will always provide a medical consultation to discuss your concerns.
Treating hyperhidrosis with botulinum toxin (excessive sweating):
Botox for Sweating injections can also be used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) also known as Botox for the Underarms. We do so by injecting Botox and other forms of toxin into the affected area, such as underarms, this prevents the glands producing sweat. It has been shown it can reduce sweating by up to 90% and the results generally last between six and nine months.
Treating migraines with botulinum toxin:
Botulinum toxin Injections to the forehead can also have an added benefit of relaxing the muscle associated with migraines.
Treating depression with botulinum toxin:
There are ongoing studies for the use of Botulinum Toxin A and the treatment of depressions. While this is still at the early stage of clinical studies, it could prove to be a vital treatment for depression. There was an interesting article in the BBC news on the subject, which found that the treatment of depression could be targeted by injecting botulinum toxin in different areas of the face. Interestingly it also found that certain areas such as around the crows feet can increase the incidence of depression due to the muscle restriction on smiling.
