Polynucleotides are a new and exciting injectable product. Using a unique biostimulatory process they are designed to improve skin quality, appearance, and elasticity. Although polynucleotides have been used in medicine for many years, they are taking the aesthetic community by storm as part of the new wave of regenerative medicine. They are clinically proven to stimulate collagen production and improve the bio-regeneration of the skin.
As we age, collagen production declines, this reduction in collagen is responsible for the lack of rigidity in the skin and the presentation of more fine lines and wrinkles. Polynucleotides are an ideal way to tackle these ageing concerns and they are ideal as a preventative regenerative treatment, for maintaining your skin quality.

Are there any side effects from this treatment?
Polynucleotides have an excellent safety record and profile, although as with any treatment involving injections, you may experience some swelling and redness afterwards, but this calms after 24-48 hours. For treatments in the more delicate undereye area the swelling may take a little longer to resolve, my patients have indicated between 2-3 days for this area. Some patients also experience pin-prick bleeding or discomfort and itchiness, we apply a protective ointment to the injection points post-treatment, but it’s important to avoid touching the area. You may also experience some bruising so it’s important to think about this if you have an important function or event.
Can Polynucleotides be used alongside other treatments?
Polynucleotides are also known as a ‘skin primer’, meaning they can prepare the skin and make it more receptive to other treatments you may be having. With some patients, I use a multi-modal approach and if used in conjunction with other treatments, they can enhance results and keep skin looking good for longer. We are currently working on a treatment protocol for combining Polyneucletoids with my much-loved Profhilo treatment, we hope the results will have a hydration-boosting effect!
How Polynucleotides work?
When we inject Polynucleotides into the skin, they reach the cells called fibroblasts. Fibroblasts are responsible for the formation of connective tissue, through their ability to produce collagen this helps maintain the skin’s structure. Polynucleotides are highly purified and sterilised DNA molecules (derived from fish sources) of natural extraction produced in Sanremo, Italy, when they’re injected into the skin, they enhance skin quality by regenerating damaged and aged skin cells.
What happens during the procedure?
Before you undergo treatment, your practitioner will cleanse the skin to remove any dirt or debris. They may then apply a numbing cream or cool compress to reduce any discomfort before administering multiple superficial injections across the treatment area.
A series of three treatments, three to four weeks apart, is recommended for best results. Polynucleotides can be used anywhere on the face, even under the eyes, on the neck, décolletage, hands, arms and knees and they have also been found to have a bio-stimulatory effect for hair regeneration.
How many treatments are required?
For best results, we advise three to four treatments spaced 2-3 weeks apart, it will then be necessary to have maintenance treatments which dependent on the patient should be after 4-6 Months
What results are expected?
Although the results of each patient are different, following the course of treatments, you can expect your skin to be firmer, smoother and more radiant with an improvement in fine lines and wrinkles. You may notice a more even skin tone and texture. For the treatment of acne, rosacea your skin may have reduced inflammation. If we have injected in the tear trough area, you can expect to see less hollowing and shadowing under your eyes.
